- Ensure that an orientation plan is in place, with step by step procedures for the tasks that are to be performed.
- If a store is short and must bring a person on quickly, train them in specific, needed tasks, and ensure that they work those tasks only. Do not have them perform additional tasks until they are trained properly.
- Employee’s performance drops after hire:
- When training a new hire, always do the following:
- Have a training plan ready
- Demonstrate station procedures to the crew person.
- Have the crew person try each step. The crew person should explain each step back to the trainer, and explain why each step is important.
- Follow Up – Perform a formal, and informal follow up after the crew person is working to ensure that performance does not suffer. They have to know and understand that you place safety above all else.
- Document effectiveness of training and adjust or retrain where needed.
